Norman
Dancy Sr. formed the original company, Dancy Construction Company,
in the late 1950's. Through the 1960's and 70's Mr. Dancy Sr's
company specialized in custom homes and commercial buildings.
Dancy built many of Winston-Salem's fire stations, banks and
office buildings and also did quite a bit of work at Baptist
Hospital. Dancy Sr. also developed some of Winston-Salem's
finest communities - Merry Acres, Muirfield, and Hope Valley
among many others. He was a founding member of the local Home
Builders Association and past president of the local Board
of Realtors.
Norman's
children, Beau (Norman Jr.) and Katherine came to work in the
family business with their Dad in the 1970's, initially working
in
the real
estate end. Katherine did the real estate bookkeeping and Beau
was an active Realtor. In the 1980's they partnered with their
father to develop Jamestowne townhomes and Westhaven cluster
homes. During this time they became more involved in the development
and construction aspects of the business.
By
the mid-1990's Beau was managing the construction business.
In 1998 Beau bought the original company from his father and
reorganized it under the name Beau Dancy Construction Co.,
Inc. Norman Dancy Sr. died that same year but left a great
name and reputation in the business. Beau and Katherine have
been running the company since that time. Katherine does the
bookkeeping and manages the office. Beau manages all aspects
of the construction business.
Beau Dancy Construction Co., Inc. is based in
Winston-Salem, North Carolina. The president and owner is Norman "Beau" Dancy,
Jr. The secretary of the corporation is Katherine Dancy Rhew
(Beau's sister). Beau Dancy Construction Co. averages between
2.5 to 4 million dollars of production each year. They specialize
in custom residential building but also can do commercial, multi-family
and remodeling. Beau Dancy Construction together with Dancy
Real Estate is also involved in residential development. As do
most construction companies of this size, Beau Dancy Construction
subcontracts out vertically all the trades. Fortunately the company
has been utilizing the same quality subs for years.
Most of the company's business is done in Forsyth County. Among
some of their current jobs are custom homes in Westhaven, Coventry
and Buttonwood developments. Other projects include townhomes
along S. Marshall St Brownstones, Tar Branch towers and residential condominiums
and offices at The Mill at Tar Branch (the former Indera Mills
factory).
